Conserve It is delighted to announce that we have won two awards at the AIRAH Awards in Sydney.

  • Excellence in HVAC&R Research

  • Innovative use of Renewable Energy in HVAC&R

The team at Conserve It congratulates everyone involved for their contributions to these initiatives. It is a huge honour to be recognised for our work and achievements in the industry.

Excellence in HVAC&R Research - Real-time model predictive control with digital twins and edge computing technologies

This award recognises outstanding achievements in research that have produced additional knowledge of HVAC&R systems with importance for future improvements in these technologies.

This comprehensive initiative researched, developed and productised machine-learning-based model predictive control to minimise the energy usage of chilled water plants.

The solution was crafted to operate fully on the edge on low-cost embedded controls and, as such, extensive research was conducted to develop machine learning and mathematical optimisation frameworks that can resolve quickly with limited computing resources. This allows for the elimination of security and reliability concerns that often arise with offsite controls, as well as ongoing cloud subscription fees.

The solution was deployed at numerous sites and delivered demonstrable energy savings of up to 18 per cent.

Innovative use of Renewable Energy in HVAC&R - Optimal scheduling of air conditioning systems with renewable energy resource and thermal storage

This award recognises initiatives that, through the innovative use of renewable energy, significantly improve the performance of HVAC and/or refrigeration systems.

Echuca Regional Health (ERH) has been a pioneer in use of renewable energy. Two solar cooling systems with a combination of electrical and absorption chillers and cold storage tanks have been operating in the hospital, making it one of the largest distributed energy systems installed in a built environment setting in Australia and globally.

Optimal operation of chillers, renewable energy and storage is a big challenge, and a team comprising of hospital management (ERH), industry partner (Conserve It) and research partner (CSIRO) have worked together to develop innovative advanced AI and machine-learning strategies for improving the utilisation of renewable energy.

About the AIRAH Awards

The AIRAH Awards provide our industry with the opportunity to reflect, applaud, and raise a toast to our peers and their achievements – from promising future leaders to established sector veterans; from the finest new projects to the best retrofits; as well as the greatest in refrigeration, renewable heating and cooling, and research.

Nominations were made across 11 categories. Independent industry specialists determine a shortlist of finalists, from which a winner is selected by an expert judging panel. This rigorous and impartial process makes the AIRAH Awards the most highly prized accolades in Australia’s HVAC&R building services industry.
